Simple Living
Hugh Springer, Jr. (May 2009)

Capo 4 (C F G C; C Am F G)

Vs 1

I want a flat panel T.V., but don't really need it.
I want a Beemer or an Audi, but could live with a Chevrolet
I want a west coast beach house, or a sweet pad in the Hampton's
But, I have Jesus Christ instead, so I'm cool with simple livin'

(instru interlude)

Vs 2

I'd love to have recognition as a natural-born leader
I'd love to have popularity as a rock and roll singer
I'd love to find out all the secrets that I may be missin'
But, I love Jesus Christ instead, so I'm cool with simple livin'

Refrain

I have found that there's more to life than just livin' for myself
It might take some sacrifice to give up my time for somebody else
I want selfless love, compassionate, and a heart free to be moved
And if that takes simple livin', then that's what I'm 'gonna do

(instru interlude)

Vs 3

I'd love to keep my stuff in my own possession
I'd love to trust my strength alone, when it comes to my own protection
I'd love to think that I can handle any situation
But, I share life in Christ instead, so I'm cool with simple livin'

(refrain)

Inspirations:

Lately I've been thinking of how many brother and sisters in community sacrifice a lot an basically throw themselves into our life. So this month I got this idea for a song -- 'Simple Living' -- more of an individual-EP-relevant type of tune with a catchy rhythm. Some of the lyrics are directly related to me, but some lyrics use real life details to capture the general idea that I've seen/heard in other people's thoughts and comments.

Similar to other songs I write - I think the real life stuff/scenarios (essentially the desire to conform to the culture) that I think ground it well, and could give good reason for it to be (potentially) released publicly and introduce people to aspects of POP.

A few influences from Tim Myers and Eric Hutchinson on this one.

Notes:

The 1 lyrical line "I want selfless love, compassionate, and a heart free to be moved." seems a little forced/unnatural and perhaps melodically out of place. So, I'm going to at least try changing it to "I want humble love, compassion, and a heart free to be moved."
