Working notes:

In my few years of experience, prayer time has always been a challenging one without committed structure – ie. Structure within a living situation like morning household prayer.

This song originated on a Saturday morning, where I felt like my recent creativity had been in a bit of a dry-spell over the summer, and I wanted to work on something new.  With the approach of scratchNJam (jam with whatever and don’t worry about it if you end up scratching/throwing away the final result – just let it flow) AND with the spirit’s inspiration, my fingers found the simple one note guitar melody, followed by some single note harmony lines to match it.  Soon I found some cool sounding supporting chords and blended them in.  The big-build chords came after playing at least a dozen to 20 times, and I like it more and more (at this point there were still no lyrics).  It was a sunny day and you could hear the birds chirping and the cars driving by from the front porch.  It’s quite acoustically favorable for recording in the porch also, so I moved out their to cut the guitar track, and really liked the result, after making a few small editing tweaks.

After about a week of listening to it and getting it stuck in my head just as I would after buying a new cd and really liking one of the tracks, I played back the guitar-only track I had thus far cut and started singing some random lyrics, starting with “So we sing Glory Be…”, and soon the various praise phrases came.   I then unintentionally realized the time I was spending on this, despite the nice weather outdoors, and I realized I was so hooked on it because I was spending the time praising the lord as I brainstormed.  After more practices at the lyrics, a few tweaks and overlay lyric recording later in the weekend, I realized that this song really was about prayer time.
