On this
special day, there's a few common traditions
Light the candles, cut the cake, and make your birthday wishes
Though monetary gifts are culturally expected
Here's an alternative pitch that I hope can be respected
For the
ways that you befriend me, I honor you
For the precious time you lend me, I honor you
For the role model you can be, I honor you
I honor you
At
another special time, there's some common expectations
Let your calendar remind...you to make dinner reservations
Though divorce and disagreement are culturally accepted
Here's to re-commitment to the partner you've been blessed with
For the
many ways that you love me, I honor you
Unknown sacrifices for me, I honor you
Dedication you've made to me, I honor you
I honor you
For any
other special moment, you can make a new tradition
With the family that you're close with, or even those who may be distant
Though some might find it's normal to be culturally rejected
Here's to overcoming struggle with family-based affection
For the
caring sis or brother, I honor you
For the selfless dad or mother, I honor you
Extended family, friend, or neighbor, I honor you
I honor you

The comment has been on the back burner of my mind for while, and I took the idea, applied it to birthdays, anniversarys and other family relationships. This is what I came up with...
